Tetherdown School – Behaviour Support Specialist

GRADE & SALARY: Sc 4, Pt 7-10 (£23,400 – £24,682) 40 weeks per year pro-rata, dependent on experience
CONTRACT: 27.5 hours p/wk Mondays to Fridays 8:30am – 3:30pm
Full time, fixed-term to 31.8.2023 with the possibility of an extension.
REQUIRED: 1st September 2022

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed individual to complement our successful team working with junior aged children. The job purpose will be to assist with the provision of support for individual pupils with social emotional and mental health difficulties, helping them overcome barriers to learning inside and outside of school, in order to achieve their potential. The SEMH support worker will work with children on a one-to-one basis or in small or large groups.

You will need to be:
• Caring and approachable, yet firm and fair
• Genuinely committed to working with children requiring behaviour support
• Able to demonstrate good English, numeracy and IT skills
• Well organised with high expectations
• Able to carry out educational activities and work programmes, providing high quality feedback to children
• Able to work as part of a team ensuring the high standards of care for all of our children
• Able to work flexibly to meet the needs of our children

You must have
✓ NVQ 3 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent qualifications
✓ At least 3 years’ experience working with children requiring behaviour, pastoral and mental health support
✓ OR At least 3 years’ experience assisting with the mentoring of students in terms of their social emotional and mental health difficulties
✓ ELSA or similar type of training
✓ Excellent communication, organisational and IT skills
✓ Good attendance and punctuality

You will be working under the direction of the inclusion Lead and the Class Teacher. Tetherdown has great transport links and easy access to the North Circular.
