POSITION: Special Needs Assistant (Early Years)

GRADE & SALARY: Scale 4 Point 7 to Point 10 – £10,126 to £10,682

CONTRACT: 17.5 hours per week (8.30 am – 12.00 noon)

Fixed term whilst the child remains at the school.

40 weeks per year, term time only

REQUIRED: 6th January 2020 (or as soon as possible)

You will need:

  • at least two years’ experience of working with children with SEND with significant difficulties. The level of experience relates specifically to either extensive experience of working with children on the autistic spectrum (non-verbal) or significant knowledge of children on the autistic spectrum
  • a qualification relevant to ASD comparable to NVQ Level 3 (or above), or a higher level qualification in ASD; MAKATON – level 2 (minimum); PECs
  • to be able to provide and deliver supporting strategies for a child with autism (non-verbal) and moderate learning difficulties within the classroom setting and on a 1:1 basis;
  • to develop supportive relationships with a child with Special Educational Needs and the class teacher and parents
  • good organisational skills;
  • good attendance and punctuality.

You will be working under the direction of the SENCo and the Class Teacher. (This post is to support a child with an EHC Plan. If the child leaves the school or if the EHC Plan is withdrawn by the Local Authority that issued it, then this contract will end forthwith.)
